Tour
Alpilles 1 : From the valley of the Alpilles to
the city of Arles
Our sightseeing tour of the valley of the Alpilles will start by the village of Les Baux, we will take the roads of the Alpilles valley where the olive has been cultivated since the time of Ancient Greece.
This area’s olive oil is an AOC. We will visit an olive mill to understand how it is made and taste the local produce.
The village of Les Baux has a rich architectural heritage which you can explore by wandering through its narrow cobbled streets, as far as the wonderful view of the valley: a silvery blue sea of olive trees.
As you come to visit Provence you may visit the town of Arles. It is a former colony under Julius Caesar which grew under the emperor Augustus, whose many monuments still stand: the theatre, the amphitheatre and the arena.
On the town hall square, the church of St Trophime, whose portal and cloister are jewels of late Southern Romanesque art, is a visit not to be missed by art lovers.
